I am delighted that you are considering applying for the role of Investigations and Hearings Team Manager. I trust that you will find the following information both interesting and thought provoking, as you understand more about our organisation and what we do.
The Bar Standards Board (BSB) is the regulatory body for barristers in England and Wales. Its Professional Conduct Department is responsible for handling complaints against barristers and taking disciplinary or other action where appropriate. The work of the Investigations and Hearings Team covers the investigation of potential breaches of the professional Code of Conduct for barristers through to the prosecution of allegations of misconduct in front of an independent Tribunal.
This is a really exciting time to join the BSB as it moves forward with its modernisation programme. You will be a member of the Operational Management Team and, as such, will play a critical role in the BSB's work to promote and safeguard the standards of legal service delivery. You will lead a team of 13, manage their performance, allocate cases and provide supervision and guidance. A critical element of this role is to ensure that internal resource is managed effectively to meet targets and that an outcomes focussed and risk based approach is taken to the work of the I&H Team.
For this role, we are looking for an experienced, legally qualified manager, someone who can provide robust and inspirational leadership to the Investigations and Hearings Team, during a period change, whilst maintaining high standards and efficiency in the day to day casework. To be successful in this role, the successful candidate will have experience not only of legal processes but also of operating in the regulatory arena, together with experience of monitoring performance against standards in services provided direct to the public. Excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively and a self-motivated, proactive approach are essential qualities for the role.
The role will be demanding, but rewarding and will operate at the heart of what we do. We are looking for individuals who are genuinely interested in the contribution we make to improving legal services for the public, who understand the impact that our work can have and who approach their work with integrity, objectivity and confident decision-making.
If you think you have what it takes to make an impact as our new Investigations and Hearings Team Manager and can demonstrate the skills and experience we are seeking, then we would very much like to hear from you.
